Users of addictive substances as victims of criminal activities - research among clients and patients of addiction services in Prague
Kosařová, Hana ; Fidesová, Hana (advisor) ; Šťastná, Lenka (referee)
Background: The topic of crime is interconnected with substance abuse users. While most studies and statistics focus on primary criminal activities and economically motivated crimes, the chapter on criminal activities committed against clients is underrepresented. Crime victimization statistics are brief, and limited information is available about them. Victimization studies, which provide some information in this field, often exclude substance abuse users, or their substance use is not the subject of inquiry. Literature suggests that victimization of substance abuse users is a complex issue that is linked to many other problems. Objectives: The aim of this bachelor's thesis is to map the prevalence of criminal activities committed against substance abuse users and to examine the relationships between general victim characteristics and the crimes committed against them. Another objective is to determine whether and how often they report these crimes, under what circumstances, and conversely, what obstacles prevent them from reporting. A significant goal is to create at least a rough understanding of the mentioned issues, which could then serve as a foundation for further research and investigation. Methods: The research was conducted using a quantitative questionnaire in paper format. It was...
Predictive value of the SUPRS scale for risky behavior in pupils in the 9th grade of elementary school
Sluková, Šárka ; Vacek, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Gabrhelík, Roman (referee)
In this bachelor thesis, I hypothesize whether a scale of personality traits that re- present risk in terms of substance use, called SURPS, can predict some potential for risk taking behavior in adolescents. Objective: The main goal was to determine whether the SURPS scale can pre- dict the potential for risk taking behaviour in adolescents. and thus have an early detection for work with at-risk individuals. Methods: In this study, I worked with data collected from a four-year pro- spective randomized, three-arm, controlled, prospective prevention study that took place in secondary schools and multi-year grammar schools from 2013 to 2017. Data was taken from the data that related to risk taking behavior and re- sponses from the SURPS scale, and this data was then processed in MS Excel to examine the correlation between the risk taking behaviors and personality traits using graphs and the χ2 test. Results: The graphs and χ2 calculation show that in most cases there is a sta- tistically significant relationship between personality traits of negative thinking and experimental substance abuse towards risk taking behaviour. The other per- sonality traits are only sporadically correlated with risky behavior. Conclusion: In all cases studied, the results do not show a relationship between SURPS scores and...
Substance use among people with hearing disability: exploration and cerrelation probe
Postránecká, Zuzana ; Vacek, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Janíková, Barbara (referee)
Although there are about 500 000 of people with hearing impairment in Czech republic, a risk group of substance abuse due to determinants of this impairment, there are distinctive lack of studies focused on this theme in our state. There are few foreign studies offering some results, overall interest is still slender in this issue. This work was aimed to define the basic terms and briefly describe difficulties of hearing impairment, psychological aspects and patterns of drug use in hearing impaired population due to available resources and exploration and correlation questionnaire study. The study had a questionnaire form and was spread by snow ball method in first stage, through 8 basic subjects on social network called facebook.com and other forms of mass communication. In the second stage we used a purposeful selection at two schools for the hearing impaired in Prague. Participants were indviduals with more than 20 dB hearing loss (includes) in both cases. The participation was no age or locally restricted. The result of theoretical and practical part is a fact, that drug using in hearing impaired population is on the same or maybe even higher level like in intact population. Due to this fact and communication barriers of hearing impaired individuals, it is required to involve a specialized...
Socio-geographic determinants of risky substance use among Czech adolescents
Kážmér, Ladislav ; Dzúrová, Dagmar (advisor) ; Kulhánová, Ivana (referee) ; Králíková, Eva (referee)
The thesis aims at the specific issues of health-related behaviour among the contemporary Czech youth, with particular emphasis on a socio-geographical dimension of the phenomena. In particular, it aims at identification of selected demographic, social, and contextual factors underlying the inequalities in risky substance use among the Czech adolescent population in its complex multilevel perspective. By applying the advanced methodology of multilevel modelling, the author reveals an integral nature of these factors in space and time, and thus contributes to a deeper knowledge on the structures and processes determining the selected forms of risk behaviours. In addition to an integrative multilevel approach, the author derives recommendations for an effective planning and implementation of preventive measures in agenda of the Czech drug policy as well. Key words: adolescence; substance use; prevalence; socio-geographic inequalities; multilevel analysis; Czechia
Health literacy among drug users
Rolová, Gabriela ; Gabrhelík, Roman (advisor) ; Lukavská, Kateřina (referee) ; Popesko, Boris (referee)
Background: Individuals with substance use disorders are likely to have low health literacy due to risk factors related to their personal and socioeconomic characteristics. Current knowl- edge is limited in understanding whether low health literacy contributes to adverse health outcomes and whether it influences the substance use behavior of this population. Design: An exploratory cross-sectional study using a questionnaire survey. Aims: To explore multidimensional health literacy and its correlates in patients treated in residential addiction treatment programs and investigate health literacy as a predictor of self- reported health indicators and quality of life. Setting: Multiple residential addiction treatment programs (i.e., detoxification units, inpatient care, therapeutic communities) in the Czech Republic. Participants: Data of 613 patients treated in residential addiction treatment programs for mental and behavioral disorders due to psychoactive substance use (F10-F19, ICD-10) were analyzed. Measurements: Health literacy was measured using the Czech version of the European Health Literacy Survey Questionnaire (HLS-EU-Q47). Data on participants' socioeconomic characteristics, self-reported health indicators and quality of life, substance use behavior, and treatment experiences were...

Císařová, Ivana ; Svěcená, Kateřina (advisor) ; Kulhánek, Adam (referee)
Background: In the Czech Republic and abroad, there is very little research regarding addiction-related issues of physically disabled people, although there are many risk factors that may contribute to the development of substance use problems in this group. Substance use also often plays a role in the aetiology of the disability itself. Objective: The main aim of this paper was to map out and analyze the use of legal and illegal substances and addictive behaviour in a specific group of people with acquired physical disabilities. Methods: The research was conceptualized using a quantitative method and data was collected through an online questionnaire survey. Further, the data was processed and analysed using Microsoft Excel and TIBCO Statistica 13. The research sample consisted of 102 individuals with acquired physical disabilities whose average age was 39,8 years. Results: The results show that, according to the AUDIT questionnaire, 88,2 % of individuals in the group of people with an acquired physical disability abstain or consume alcohol at low risk. Respondents who had a positive prognosis for their disability had significantly lower AUDIT scores than respondents without a positive prognosis. It was also revealed that 18,6 % of the respondents smoked daily or almost daily and the majority...
